TANK WATERPROOFING
Waterproofing your commercial or industrial tanks is essential for preventing leaks and maintaining a functional water storage system. Small cracks or leaks in waterproofing membranes can rapidly escalate into significant structural issues, flooding, electrical hazards, and a range of unexpected compliance breaches.
Beyond the tanks themselves, areas directly around tanks or areas frequently exposed to accidental spills often require waterproofing solutions.
Raven Tanks UK possesses the expertise, equipment, and resources to install a variety of different membrane types to accommodate all sites and industrial tank configurations.
What Are Waterproofing Membranes?
Heavy-duty tank waterproofing membranes are primarily a film or coating applied to surfaces to prevent water from seeping into undesirable areas. These can be applied through various methods, but it’s crucial to ensure the membrane type you’re installing is suitable for its particular application.
Raven Tanks UK has been installing tank waterproofing systems for over three decades, recommending and applying membranes to support numerous applications across UK.
Waterproofing Membrane Types We Apply
Tank waterproofing membranes come in several application types, with Raven Tanks UK offering a range of premium peel-and-stick, torch-on, and liquid products to improve your tank’s storage capabilities.
Types of tank waterproofing membranes we apply include:
- Torch-on Membranes (single and double-layered) – A low-maintenance membrane solution made from bitumen and modified polymers. There are two types of torch-on membranes: Atactic Polypropylene (APP) and Styrene Butadiene Styrene (SBS).
APP membranes are ideal for tanks exposed to consistent sunlight and extreme temperatures. They come in sheet form and are easily applied using heat. SBS membranes are better suited for cold climates where there is less expansion of the tank’s surfaces.
- Peel and Stick Membranes – Typically used on vertical surfaces, these self-adhesive waterproofing membranes are film-like and apply easily with a stick-on method. They are particularly suitable for metal tanks, providing longer-lasting adhesion.
- Liquid Membrane Applications – A gel-like sealant coating designed to prevent and fill microscopic leaks that could lead to significant future issues. It can be easily sprayed on and offers a high-strength, cost-effective waterproofing solution.
Concrete Tank Applications
Concrete-based or walled tanks typically require a liquid barrier solution. This is often the most suitable protective layering method and usually needs two coats for maximum effectiveness.
Cracked containers are a common problem that requires a membrane solution to effectively “seal” vulnerable surface areas.
Raven Tanks UK uses liquid polyurethane coatings on tanks and water storage areas with concrete surfaces for enhanced and long-lasting waterproofing protection.
Scheduling an Inspection: Why It Matters
Staying informed about your tank’s condition allows you to understand, acknowledge, and plan for preventative maintenance. Water leaks may not always be apparent to the untrained eye, taking time to develop, worsen, and become an obvious danger.
Additionally, water gradually leaking onto access platforms, walkways, and other high-traffic areas poses a hazard and a safety liability if an accident occurs due to a neglected water storage system.
